One in three adults cannot read this sentence. (Literacy Texas)

Can we really expect them to complete a job application, read to their children, read a bus schedule, understand credit terms, understand their prescription instructions, or, as a preacher advises, read the Bible?

While numerous organizations around the country are helping more Americans become functionally literate, there is still a lot of work to be done. We can start by talking more about how illiteracy wreaks havoc in our society. The demand to learn basic reading and writing skills is high and critical as it prepares our country to compete in our ever-changing world. We must fight together as a nation to rid illiteracy.

The Servant Media, a Christian media company, connects churches, organizations, and businesses to the fight for literacy through its literacy advocacy and social media services.

Our priorities are to serve:

1. God by sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ who died for our salvation,
2. Individuals and communities by creating a community fighting for literacy, and
3. Businesses and organizations by connecting them to a worthy cause through social media services that increase their effectiveness and efficiency.

The Servant Media invites you to join us in our fight for literacy. Add your name to "Make Literacy an American Priority," our online petition. Our goal is to collect 100,000 e-mail signatures by June 2010.
